We are delighted to announce the acquisition of a unique collaborative novel from seven of the finest UKYA authors. Allow us to introduce you to Floored, a novel by Sara Barnard, Holly Bourne, Tanya Byrne, Non Pratt, Melinda Salisbury, Lisa Williamson and Eleanor Wood.
“So here they are: the swot, the fraud, the dutiful daughter, the child star, the fangirl and the asshole. The six of them assembled in an awkward circle in the small lift, trying not to stand too close to one another and failing.”
Publishing in July 2018, Floored was commissioned by Rachel Petty, 6+ Editorial Director at Macmillan Children’s Books, and follows the lives and loves of a group of teenagers over several years, with each character written by a different author.
Told from the perspective of each character and a mysterious narrator, Floored is about all the ups and downs of life. After they go through a traumatic experience together, the lives of six strangers become intertwined, and they decide to meet once a year to commemorate the day they met and the person they lost.
Rachel Petty says, “the UKYA community is so strong and supportive and I wanted to translate that into what I knew would be a really special collaboration. Even though it’s editorially challenging to edit seven different voices into one coherent novel, it’s been fascinating, and so much fun. The end result feels seamless – we’re keeping which author has written which character a secret and they all blend together whilst remaining totally distinct. I couldn't be more excited to share what this fantastic bunch of authors has come up with, and the timing couldn’t be better on the back of double-digit growth for our YA list and this will be our summer lead in 2017.”
And that's all we can reveal for now! We'll be drip feeding you with exciting information about Floored and its wonderful authors - so watch out on the blog and our social media accounts for the first information hot off the press.
